FUND MANAGER & CVC ADVISORY
Build a stronger venture practice.
I help fund managers and corporate venture leaders clarify their strategy, strengthen decision-making and build the operating model needed to deliver credible results.
Venture investing is a business, not just an investment activity.
Strong investment judgment matters. So do positioning, governance, portfolio construction, internal alignment and the ability to explain clearly what the venture practice is designed to achieve.
I work with fund managers and CVC leaders to identify weaknesses, make better decisions and build a more focused, professional platform.
The work is practical, independent and adapted to the realities of your organization.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Fit call
We begin with a conversation about the venture practice, the current challenges and the outcomes you want to achieve.
2. Strategy phase
Most engagements begin with an eight-to-twelve-week phase focused on the most important priorities.
This may include interviews, document review, working sessions and the development of practical recommendations or frameworks.
3. Ongoing advisory
Where useful, the relationship continues through monthly or quarterly sessions, feedback on key decisions and support between meetings.
Commercial approach
Engagements are normally structured as a fixed-fee strategy project or an ongoing retainer.
I do not act as a placement agent and do not charge commissions or fundraising success fees.
Any introductions are made selectively, where relevant, and are not the basis of the engagement.
FUND MANAGERS
I work with emerging and established managers on:
Fund strategy and differentiation
Clarifying the fund’s purpose, market position, competitive advantage and investment thesis.
Portfolio construction
Testing assumptions around fund size, ownership, reserves, pacing and return potential.
LP positioning and fundraising
Strengthening the story, materials, data room and fundraising process.
Investment process and governance
Improving sourcing, diligence, investment committee decisions and documentation.
Firm development
Building the team, operating rhythm, reporting and portfolio-support model required to scale.
CORPORATE VENTURE TEAMS
I help CVC leaders build a practice that works both as a venture investor and within the realities of a larger organization.
Areas of support include:
Mandate and strategy
Defining what the venture team exists to achieve and how success should be measured.
Governance and decision rights
Creating clear processes for investment decisions, approvals and accountability.
Corporate alignment
Building stronger relationships with business units, senior leadership and other internal stakeholders.
Investment and partnership models
Determining when to invest, partner, pilot or pursue another form of strategic engagement.
Portfolio value
Improving how the organization supports portfolio companies and captures strategic value from the relationship.
TYPICAL ENGAGEMENTS
Projects may include:
Fund or CVC strategy review
Investment-thesis development
Portfolio-construction modelling
LP narrative and fundraising preparation
Investment committee design
Governance and decision-process review
Corporate alignment and stakeholder management
Team and operating-model development
The scope is agreed in advance and kept focused on the work that will make the greatest difference.
